In my early 20's, I left the safety of my corporate job with a major oil company in Chicago to
pursue my first love - horses! After training under professionals for more than 10 years (from 8
- 18) I knew that what I really wanted to do with my life was teach. So, in my early 20's I bought
a horse farm in the Midwest and taught thousands of lessons in the years that followed. After
leaving the farm, I returned to Chicago and decided to take a stab at writing for horse-related
publications. This would be the best way to teach thousands of riders at the same time and I
could earn a living doing it.
During that first year, I received almost exactly 100 rejection letters. Because I knew that I
knew the topic that I was writing about, inside and out, I realized that the reason I wasn't
getting published HAD TO BE for a reason that had nothing to do with my writing.
